Makeup Lessons

Learn YOUR Face. YOUR Products. YOUR Makeup.

You don't need to be "good at makeup" to take a makeup lesson. Actually, that's kind of the point. 😉
Whether you've been wearing makeup for decades but feel like your old routine isn't working anymore, you've accumulated a drawer full of products you don't really know how to use, or you're starting from Where exactly does blush go? — we would love to help.
Makeup lessons at Cotton Rouge & Company are personalized to your face, your features, your skin, your lifestyle, your current skill level and your budget.
We're not here to teach you one "correct" way to do makeup.
We're here to help you understand how to make makeup work for you.

WHICH MAKEUP LESSON IS RIGHT FOR YOU?
We offer two styles of individual makeup lessons. Both are educational, both are personalized, and both will leave you with a completed makeup application.
The difference is really how deeply you'd like to dive into the WHY behind what we're doing.

APPLICATION-FOCUSED MAKEUP LESSON | starting at $135
Want to learn how to recreate a beautiful makeup application on your own?
This lesson focuses on the application itself. Your artist will walk you through your finished look while explaining the products, brushes and techniques being used along the way.
We'll show you which brush makes a particular step easier, where we're placing products and how to recreate the techniques at home.
This is a great option if your primary goal is:
  • Learning an everyday makeup routine
  • Updating your current application
  • Learning how to create a particular look
  • Figuring out where and how to apply your products
  • Getting more comfortable doing your own makeup
  • Booking a Follow-Up Lesson
You'll leave with a completed makeup application and a much better understanding of how to recreate it yourself.

IN-DEPTH MAKEUP LESSON | starting at $200
Okay, but WHY does that brush work better?
If that's the kind of question you want answered, welcome. We can absolutely nerd out about makeup together. 😉
Our in-depth lesson goes beyond recreating the finished application and dives further into the mechanics behind it.
Depending on your individual needs and goals, we may explore things like:
  • Skin health and skincare considerations
  • Your individual face and eye shape
  • Product placement and how it can change the appearance of your features
  • Makeup brush shapes, density, length, flexibility and taper
  • Why different brushes change the behavior and finish of a product
  • Product formulas and how they interact with your skin
  • Color and product selection
  • Techniques customized specifically to your features
You'll still leave with a completed makeup application, but we'll spend more time understanding why we're making the choices we're making so you can apply those principles on your own.
This is our favorite option for anyone who wants a deeper understanding of makeup rather than simply learning the steps of one particular look.

Different Cotton Rouge artists may offer different lesson formats based on their individual teaching styles and specialties.

BRING YOUR MAKEUP BAG!
Please do!
In fact, don't go shopping before your lesson.
We encourage you to bring the makeup and brushes you actually own and use at home. Seeing what's already in your collection helps your artist understand what you're working with and make recommendations that are realistic for you.
And we promise, there is absolutely no makeup-bag judgment happening here.
Drugstore products? Great.
Luxury products? Great.
A product you bought three years ago because someone on TikTok told you it would change your life and you've never figured out what to do with it?
Definitely bring that.
What you own also gives us insight into how you prefer to shop. If your makeup bag is primarily filled with affordable products, we're not going to tell you that you suddenly need a routine filled with luxury makeup.
And if you're a department-store beauty counter girlie with a bag full of Chanel? We're going to take that into consideration, too.
There are fantastic products at all different price points.
Our goal isn't to build our favorite makeup bag. It's to help you build yours.

MAKEUP CHANGES. AND SO DO WE.
One of the most common things we hear is:
"I've been doing my makeup the same way forever, and suddenly it just doesn't look right anymore."
You're not imagining it.
Skin changes. Features change. Trends change. Products change. And sometimes the techniques that worked beautifully for us at 25 simply aren't the techniques we love on ourselves at 45, 55 or 65.
That doesn't mean you suddenly need "mature makeup" or a list of rules about what you supposedly aren't allowed to wear anymore.
It may simply mean adjusting placement, changing a formula, using a different tool or learning another way to create the effect you've always loved.
A makeup lesson is a chance to update your technique without losing yourself in the process.

MAKE IT A SHARED EXPERIENCE
Mother + Daughter. Sisters. Besties. Some of our absolute favorite lessons happen with two or three people learning together.
Each person still books and receives an individual lesson based on their own features, products, skill level and goals. We simply schedule the lessons together so you can share the experience.
And there are some fantastic benefits to learning this way.
You can watch techniques being demonstrated on someone else, take notes or photos for each other, and see firsthand how the same makeup principles may be adapted for completely different faces.
Certain concepts can be taught to everyone together, while the actual application and recommendations remain individualized.
You may be learning together, but we're never going to teach you as though you all have the same face.
Plus, comparing makeup bags, realizing you've both been using the same brush completely differently and laughing your way through the process is just FUN.
If you'd like to book lessons together, let us know when you inquire so we can reserve enough time for everyone.

HAVE A BIGGER GROUP?
We love those, too!
For larger groups, we shift from several individual lessons scheduled together into more of a customized group makeup class or beauty experience.
Because larger groups require a different format, we'll customize the experience based on the number of guests, what your group would like to learn and how you'd like the class structured.
Contact us with what you have in mind and we'll talk through the options and create a specialized quote for your group.

YES, YOU CAN COME BACK!
You do not have to learn everything there is to know about makeup in one afternoon.
In fact, many of our clients return for a second lesson after they've had some time to practice.
Your next lesson might be completely different from your first. Maybe you mastered your everyday routine and now want to learn an evening look. Maybe you've practiced for a few months and have new questions. Maybe you want to focus entirely on eyes.
Or maybe you just discovered that learning about makeup is really fun.  Or maybe you want to see what a different artist might suggest for you! There is always more to learn.

READY TO LEARN YOUR MAKEUP?
Come exactly as you are — makeup bag, mystery brushes and all.
We'll help you figure out what you already own, what you actually need, what techniques make sense for your features and how to create makeup that feels like you.
